Homemade Hazelnut Chocolate Spread

I hope you are all doing well!

In Barcelona, everything is now back to normal: my parents have just left after spending a few weeks with us. It was so wonderful to have them around, especially since I hadn’t seen my dad in more than a year! They were both so happy to spend some time with the pequeña and we were all spoiled during their stay. Wonderful times.

This recipe is one I made while my parents were staying with us. Last Saturday, they treated us to a very nice breakfast at our place and I wanted to try this recipe for a long time. It seemed like the perfect moment!

As you can see, it is a homemade version of the infamous hazelnut chocolate spread that every kid loves…I never buy it because it is packed with bad things for you (as far as we can read on the internet) but I must admit I kind of missed the taste.

But Norah could not resist my homemade version! 🙂

Ingredients for a nice big jar of chocolate spread:

  • 2 cups hazelnuts
  • 1,5 cups icing sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3-6 spoons of vegetable oil, depending on the texture you want to get.
    (You can also use another type of oil like Beth mentioned, hazelnut oil might be a good alternative, but impossible to find here!)

The recipe is quite easy:

Put everything in the mixer, mix well until you get a paste. I went on and added the oil little by little so I could get to the right texture.

Et voila! Ready and vegan friendly.

    I’m so excited about this post!!!!! Vegan, homemade nutella? I feel like Christmas has come early. Where did you get your hazelnuts? By ice sugar do you mean icing sugar (sucre glace)? I can’t wait to try this!!!!!

    PS: The pudgy little hand stealing the croissant makes my heart melt 🙂

      Yes you are right, it is icing sugar, I will update my post to correct the mistake hehe. Thank you for letting me know.
      I got the hazelnuts at the organic shop on calle Pi y Maragall.
